Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
I was just talking to someone back east. With out realizing it at the time, I was basically describing conditions that led the person to say that summer is over in Flagstaff. Funny how we don't really get a summer up here unless it's a drought summer. It sure is humid and rainy, too. I had 2 to 3 hours of it by my apartment, and though it was light here, it has been heavy in other locales and Flagstaff Airport has recorded nearly 2 inches for the month, mostly from a couple of storms. Anyone see about the flooding in the Schultz Burn?

Its just gray and over cast up here. We've had nearly a week of gray overcast conditions. Just miserable.

Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
So, back to weather related nonsense. It was really nice this afternoon and evening. The gray and dreary overcast conditions moved out and the sun was seen for the first time in over a week, or so it felt. I guess some more rain would be good later next week, but it sure is nice to have some sun and warmer temps again.

Same here, we had some sun, nice and warm, rode my bike. I went to the post office, and of course, everyone I saw asked me if it isn't too "hot" to be riding a bike! Crazy locals, never wear shorts...

Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
It started off clear and sunny, but some very heavy storms developed over the Peaks and Elden. They have moved and continue to move SW, which is good because they are wide spread and a lot of the area is getting rain. My place has probably had close to an inch from the storm, and the airport is reporting 93/100s. The heavy rains have triggered a Flood Advisory for the washes around here.

Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
We had some of that a couple hours ago. No thunder and lightning, just downpour. I can now see some very small patches of blue sky.

Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
Right now I wish we would get a few days of nothing but blue skies. We don't need anymore rain around here and we could use the sun to take advantage of the rain we have had. Besides, I would like to get out of the house and go for a hike.

After our really dry spring, we've turned around and had 4.3 inches of rain at the airport so far this July. It sure had been wet around here the last two weeks, thats for sure.

pretty much getting daily rains over here in the Sacramento's... up to 2" per hit... it is green! 20' of snow predicted for the coming winter season, double their ten foot hit of this last season (...and that was enough to do major damage!)

Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
Interesting forecast for Eagar and the White Mtns. over the next week. The NOAA website shows "heavy rain" every day, instead of the usual "40% chance of thunderstorms." I am not sure the difference, because when you read it, it still says it is after 11 a.m. and there is to be thunder and lightning. Maybe more torrential rains than usual? It was supposed to be like that yesterday but it lasted only a short time.
It is so green up here right now it hurts your eyes to look at it!
I have wanted to mow the lawn for a week now, but it is always too wet.

.5 inches at my house again last night - almost a mirror image of what happened last Thursday. .5" a week would NOT be unwelcome, especially with the significant drop in Temps that it has brought along!

Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
We had a real good storm this afternoon. It came in from the northeast with a lot of great cloud to ground lightning. We had heavy rain for about an hour and the airport is reporting 1.21 inches of rain, which brings the July total up to 5.52 inches, nearly all of which fell in the last two weeks or so.

Re: Coming of the North American Monsoon, 2010
I think I live in the "donut hole" as far as storms go (East Mesa). Last night there were deep, dark clouds everywhere I looked. Everywhere, that is, except directly overhead, where there was bright blue skies. All the big storms seem to miss my neighborhood. Oh well, at least we don't get the microbursts that knock all the trees down.
