Amazon showed me an intriguing book this morning, by a retired Life Science professor from ASU, about how the Deer Creek/South Fork area of the Mazatzals has recovered from fire over the past 10 years. ("After the Wildfire," published in 2017.) He made observations during many hikes of the same trails over the 10 years. Available as paperback or for Kindle, though I plan to read it on Kindle for PC since there are 60 color photos. No reader reviews yet, but one of the pro reviewers said it's “Like taking a walk with Thoreau or Leopold . . ." and more.

I read it and it was a struggle to finish. He writes exclusively about the Deer Creek area so unless you're obsessed with Deer Creek, I wouldn't pick it up.

@Tough_Boots Ya I read most of it now too and had a similar feeling, the Thoreau, Aldo comparisons might be a tad over stated. He also dedicated like a half a page to a pile of clothes he found, which he attributed to illegal immigrants, kind of made me laugh a little to myself...

Hm, thanks for the info, guys. Maybe I'll wait and see if the Library has it available to borrow.

In terms of ponderosa and junipers etc. really has not recovered...

Received this book a couple of days ago, author is John Alcock who also authored Sonoran Desert Spring and Sonoran Desert Summer. Very good reads.
