Riparian Photopoint Project

Anyone interested in taking some photos on your hikes? The Friends of Tonto National Forest is looking for volunteers to photograph riparian areas. Started by the Forest Service in 1988, the Riparian Photopoint program documents riparian areas by taking photographs of the vegetation and streambanks once a year, at the same exact sites each year. The Forest, and ecologists who do research on the Tonto, have come to depend upon information these photos provide - impacts by livestock, or improvement in conditions through livestock management, wildlife impacts, results of flooding, fire and drought. This is a fun project that really has impact. There are sites all over the Forest, and a particular need if for volunteers who can hike some distance or have 4WD vehicles to get to some more remote spots. A virtual training will be held Tuesday, April 26 from 7 pm - 8:30 pm. You can register online here:
