Instead of carrying around that giant syringe, you can print an adapter to screw your clean water bottle into the Outlet of a Sawyer. Squeeze the bottle to back flush.

I absolutely love my 3d printer but for this one, the coupler is like, 75 cents to just buy Also, if you weren't aware, you can use a standard water bottle with a sport cap to backflush in the field; the male part poking out of the output on the squeeze fits perfect into the hole of the sports cap.

With that said, I mainly use a platypus quickdraw these days which has a larger diameter threading. I DID print a coupler for that to turn it into a gravity filter if I want as, for some dumb reason, the company doesn't make/sell their own.

I saw that an adapter could be bought for $2.50. But of course, it was more fun to print my own.

I just saw the trick about the "sport cap." But I looked at Smart water bottles at Costco the other day and they had normal caps.

Yeh, assuming Costco had in bulk which would be the regular cap; I just buy one from the gas station and re-use for a season or two to minimize waste

Sport caps come on the 700ml bottles, not the 1L bottles.

Any grocery store will have them. Look more to the end caps where they sell single gatorades/waters/etc vs the multipacks

BTW, I saw a new way to use the Adapter when I met Thru-hikers at Horse Camp seep earlier this year. I printed it to use it to back flush my Sawyer. But they were using it in reverse, to connect their water bottle to their Sawyer while filtering.

I've been hanging my bag hoping that water would drip into my bottle, or lately, per an Influencer, using a bit of hose to make the dripping more accurate. This way is much easier/better.

But I couldn't figure out why my Sawyer kept "clogging" when using my Adapter this new way. I feel stupid, since it should have been obvious. But you have to leave the water bottle a little loose in the Adapter so that air in the bottle can come out as water drips in.
