checking-out!!!

I have been checking out the posts from the last few days. WHOAA!!! Looks like i missed out on a lot since I have been gone for the last few days. This place is great! It's the HAZ birthday party and just like my crazy relatives, you gotta make it all about you. I guess we are getting close to the holidays.
Everybody's opinion matters. I think it is great that people disagree. I think i learn the most when I listen and try to understand those that I dont agree with.
As much as i love some of you, i gotta say that threatening to leave really smacks of selfishness. In the big picture, does this forum really matter? We might be exchanging forum posts with Ted Kozynscki or David Berkowitz during "library time" for all we know. Of course, we are not going to agree. To run from that? Says alot. Personally, I am disappointed.
Would I agree to go Lorena Bobbit on some dude moving in on my wife, who obviously didnt take the hint? Don't know, wasnt there. Who cares though. Sheesh, i can still sleep at night, that's for sure.
Okay, talk to y'all later. There's a dog barking outside my window that's driving me crazy.

Pete,
What did the dog think of the knife?
or you could just expose your self??
I to have been doing a lot of catch-up, post reading.
I want to go camping with Snick, he has the best campfire humor.
The problem is lots out there are suffering from a campfire deficit.
One should be reading and writing, for information and entertainment,
even an exchange if ideas (close to the edge here?).
This site is the best for just that.
It's nobodys business that I am naked at work typing this..... Right? :BH:
Go take a hike...... then reply to those pulse elevating posts.
Don't anybody stop!

I just got done reading snick's "signing off" string..

: {I posted a reply on it, for kicks} I obviously missed something from an earlier string of conversation. Perhaps the indian's where on to something with that peace-pipe idea or of course a good bottle of gin might work as well?

Woopitup,
Read the "should naked hiking be allowed" thread - that's where it all happened. I inadvertantly pissed another guy off, and the whole thing blew up.
I like your avatar - what is it a picture of?

In response to pfredricks' reply:
That was GREAT!!!!
People (not everyone), learn from pfredricks. Gosh there is so much out there to "really" be upset with. name calling, and the correct placement (or incorrect placement) of a few nouns, verbs, adverbs, etc., should follow right along with the ole sticks and stones thing. (Actually, for me, people who don't see that provide me with job security)
what gets my knickers in a bunch are those darn palatial abodes in my hiking view. Now there's something to be upset about.......

I suggested pete write for Hallmark months ago. . . .

I'm glad to see his wisdom keeps flowing.

In response to pfredricks' reply:
Yeah, heres a good one. Have you ever read a post, gotten all twisted, furiously typed up a wordy reply, then re-read it before submission, only to think to yourself "oh for cryin out loud, I'm not posting that" I can't count how many times I have. Sometimes just that little bit of time passing puts it all back in perspective.

When I first joined the forum we had a number of discussions that really lit things up. They seem to come in cycles. The most recent one that got my knickers in a knot was the BSA thread started by JMangum.
I learned a long time ago that this forum is a dangerous place to post opinions. I've discussed it before, but it bears mentioning again: This forum is not the same as a conversation - even if it has the same type of feel, the dynamic is completely different.
In a conversation you can see facial expressions, voice tone, body language and other cues that can convey different levels of understanding. Not here. All we have here are words and a limited amount of smileys. Occasionally something gets read wrong - or we don't put quite enough information behind our post and it gets interpreted wrong. That's unfortunately the case every so often.
Mike T said it already - sometimes I write a nice lengthy diatribe to respond to some neanderthal comment - then, as I proof it before posting, I think, "This will generate more trouble than it's worth....forget it." And then move on. It's just not worth the effort for the potential harm.
Mind you - that doesn't mean that I refrain from holding forth if I deem it necessary or fun. Anyone who is paying attention knows I love a good argument.
I didn't understand that when I first was on the forum and I got in trouble quite often - and I'm sure I've offended a number of people. It is, however, just language. I've never resorted to slurs or name-calling (well, nothing mean-spirited anyway  ).
So, sticks and stones and all that...
I don't think it's possible for this forum to exist and have lively interesting threads without the occasional feather getting ruffled. The lively threads are what I live for. I wouldn't say we need to limit the sharing of opinions - just that we need to take everything with a grain of salt, or maybe even a spoonful of sugar.
We want people to participate - we want your opinions and we want to hear from you. Just relax, and repeat the mantra: "it's just a forum"
So, with that being said - who wants to start a thread on:
- - Taxes
- Federal deficit spending
- Economics in general
- Democrat vs. Republican
- War in Iraq
- Religion
- Creationism vs. Evolution
- Good vs. Evil
- Friends vs. Seinfeld
- Ginger vs. MaryAnne
- Snoop Dog vs. Barry Manilow
- Microsoft vs. Linux
- Less filling vs. Tastes great
- Schlitz vs. Pabst
- Disco vs. Polka (a wash in my opinion)
Anyone? Bueler?

Sorry folks - I deliberately got off topic in an attempt to lighten the mood.
You can find the posts in response my levity can now be found in the new thread:
Something vs. Something else
You may continue with the non-levity posts here if you so desire.
