Fire restrictions

I got an update from VOA the other day that there are fire restictions outside of Flag. Does anyone have the current fire restictions and possible forest closures? Thanks, Cindy

There's another topic somewhere else on this site that has the specific web link to the Prescott NF's fire restrictions. We found it simply by typing in 'Prescott National Forest' in our search engine of choice. SInce the fire deal this year is big news, the link was easily available from their main page. We're sure you can do the same with the Coconino or any other Southwest US Forest coping with the drought.

The Coconino and Kaibab forests plan to implement fire, smoking, explosives and welding restrictions forestwide at 8 a.m. Wednesday in order to reduce the risk of wildland fire starts.
Fires, campfires and stove fires will be prohibited outside of developed recreation areas. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns and heaters meeting safety specifications are allowed.
This was released yesterday, so restrictions go in affect next week.

I just got back from spending a week in the Christopher Creek area, and the forest is absolutely bone dry. So dry, in fact, it seemed like the snap of a twig under foot would be enough friction to set a fire. In all the years I've lived in this state, it's never been this dry. Please, please be careful when out hiking. If we take care of our wilderness, we will always have wilderness to hike in.
