Houston Bros. do I need a tent?

I am thinking about going on a mini-backpacking trip this weekend (15-16)on Houston Bros. My husband and I just moved to Arizona so I am not sure what to expect from the weather. We don't mind a bit chilly, but I am worried about wind. I prefer camping without a tent whenever possible, would this be a bad idea?
Thanks guys!

we're just entering the tentless season and Houston Bros is a great place. If you go in from Pinchot Cabin to about McFarland spring you will see a small valley with great camping potential.
For a longer hike (but still mini)you can go down to Barbershop trail and where it crosses FR139, about 300 yards more to Barbershop spring, very scenic small creek and spring in a meadow surrounded by trees.
keep in mind, AZ state law requires your camp to be at least 1/4 mile from a spring to protect wildlife.

How many miles long are these two hikes?
We were thinking of aiming for Aspen Spring. Is there much chance of anyone else being up there?

I'd be suprised if you saw anyone on the trails, with the possible exception of the Fred Haught from the south entry.

In response to previous query, Aspen Spring is a "half-popular" spot. On a weekend I'd say your chances are 50/50 because there's little-known vehicular access to that area, and often there's a group of campers there with their trucks.
