Im looking for a nice spot to bring my Dad up to this weekend

I need to find a spot that has decent fishing without much hiking - pops is getting a bit older :)
but I also want to have some good hiking for myself

Ive been looking around the alpine region but would like some advice on areas other people have been to

Thompson Trail #629 along the West Fork of the Black River.
ASNF Description http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/asnf/recreation ... pson.shtml
HAZ Page http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=613

While I've never fished there, I have seen people fishing, and AZGFD reports that it's stocked with Apache Trout all summer long.

The hike is nice (see any of the photos on HAZ) and easy in an open meadow, about 3 miles along the stream. There's a couple of connecting trails that go away from the stream if you want to do something more strenuous yourself and leave your dad down by the river.

You could hit up one of the rim lakes. There are many trails around and near them for hiking. A copy of the Coconino National Forest map will help. Also there have quite a few large trout being pulled out of the rim lakes this summer, most notably Willow Springs Lake. I always have good luck there, and at Woods Canyon and Bear Canyon lakes. Some of the more remote lakes like Knoll and Blue Ridge Reservoir do not lend themselves to shore fishing; they are ringed with cliffs.

I like chumley's idea. You'd have to research the area a bit though. There is some fish restoration going on in that area, so make sure you are fishing in an area that is not off limits. I was hiking along a section of the West Fork of the Little Colorado last weekend that was off-limits to fishing. The Game and Fish website is helpful for figuring it all out and for getting the latest fishing info on state waters.

Ive been to Thompson Trail, its a really nice area, but I dont think Ive ever seen anything catchable there, also if I remember correctly part of it is protected and you cannot fish there

But the area is definately somewhere I am interested in

The rim lakes are usually nice, Ive pulled some whoppers from knoll lake, but I kinda wanted to avoid the crowds,
