Humphrey on July 4th

On July 4th I'm going to do Humphrey. Unlike every other time this year, I will take the trail all the way. Seems like a good day to do it. It will probably be crowded, though. Lets get a small group to do it.
I don't know where people are coming from, but for me a 930 am start time is perfect. It puts me on the summit no later than noon.

I'm going tomorrow, too. It will be #21, so I can finally drink on the summit.

Damn! Wally Farak, Ron Davis and I did this hike last year on July 4th, and I was hoping to start an annual tradition. However, we're celebrating my grandmother's 85th birthday on the 4th. What a great way to celebrate.

I've done this 3 different years on the 4th but I can't this year. Last year was great!

Well, we'll see if I do this year, too. I went today just in case the storms started early and next weekend wasn't worth it. I ended up getting hailed and rained on. Not too bad, but if things start to turn south I think today will be my last time until the fall or winter.
However, if conditions for Friday the 4th are good, I'm going. We should know by midweek.

If you do go, you could do us all a favor by taking a blank notebook for the summit log. Everything in the ammo can was written on as of last weekend.

The early forecast is for a slight chance of storms. While this isn't the 90 and sunny with 5% humidity that I was hoping for on Friday, unless the forecast has a dramatic increase in POP's I am still planning to do Humphrey. That should make it my last time before the monsoons start.

Probably best to just meet at the trailhead. Are you going to be able to get to the trailhead from Phoenix by 930 am? I've never done it, but I hear its around 3 hours from the valley to Snowbowl.
If you do go, bring a poncho or something to keep dry with. We have had rain already this year, and we have a 20% chance for tomorrow.
