Planning on overnight stay at Phantom Ranch, and then hike out North Rim early morning in one day. This upcoming weekend (Aug.15/16). If start at 5:30 am is hike out to trail head by 3:00 pm "doable" ? What about heat as one ascends the north kaibab trail ? Thanks. Sanecat

Like anything physical, it depends on your fitness level. I wouldn't be surprised though, if you were to reach the rim by noon. With summer time temps what they are at the Canyon, you should hope you reach the rim well before that. Temps go down as you go up, but it's still hot.

As it's a near full moon this w/e, you could start even earlier than 5:30 & avoid the heat even more. Even w/o the full moon it's an easy-to-follow trail (highway) all the way to the Rim.
2 mph avg. is easily do-able on the NK.

It was ~80 at the N. Rim last week for a high temp, just FYI.

The Grand Canyon Lodge will close for the '21 season on Oct. 16 and visitor services will be limited, according to the National Park Service.
The North Rim Visitor Center, which is operated by the Grand Canyon Conservancy, will close the previous day at 6 p.m.
Visitors at the North Rim who explore after Oct. 16 should plan to be self-sufficient and bring enough food and water for the day.
The campground at the North Rim will continue accepting reservations through Oct. 31 and will close Nov. 1.
The entrance gate that provides North Rim access on State Route 67 will close either on Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. or after the first major snow storm of the season.
The camper/general store will operate Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the SR 67 access gate is closed.
Effective October 11, 2021, the National Park Service (NPS) will begin shutting off water to the upper Bright Angel and North Kaibab Trails.
Water filling stations will be shut off for the season along the Bright Angel and North Kaibab trails affecting Mile-and-a-Half and Three-Mile rest houses on the Bright Angel Trail and Supai Tunnel on the North Kaibab Trail.
