So my little brother who is 10 has been expressing interested in going backpacking but I don't think he will be up for much hiking, maybe 2-5miles total, let alone anything strenuous. What would everyone recommend for a short, easy, overnight fishing trip?
I appreciate any input.
Thanks!
Allan.

Chevelon Lake might qualify as a little bit strenuous. The hike at the dam end is a mile long and about 700 feet in elevation. Its a miserable rocky road to climb after a pleasant day by the water. The south end of the lake is a much more pleasant trail at 1/2 mile and only about 250 feet.
Its a bit more of a trek to get to from Peoria, but the West Fork of the Black River in the White Mtns is a nice 3 mile out and back in a nice grassy valley along the river... its an easy hike and features several potential camping locations where you can listen to the water gurgling past you at night.

fossil creek/ verde river confluence is hot for smalls. Black as mentioned above is also good for smalls. Also below the dam at canyon lake (use the road to hike in past the locked gate) which is technically upper saguaro lake for smalls, large and cats.
