Grand Enchantment Trail

Now that I have finished the Arizona Trail, I have been casting about for a new adventure. The Grand Enchantment Trail seems to fit the bill. Plus, since it piggybacks on the AZT for 70 miles, I already have a head-start.

If you haven't heard about this trail that goes 700 miles from Phoenix to Albuquerque, you can read more at
http://www.simblissity.net/get-home.shtml. There are not many first hand accounts of the trail on the internet and I was wondering if anyone here has hiked it or is planning on doing so in the near future.

the GET website is far superior and set up very well compared to the AZT website. not comparing the two really, but if you are headed out for a long trail then logistically speaking, the GET is a great choice. More water, better re-supply, better routing. Their website is very easy to follow and has
MAPS! (imagine that!

)
im going to do it also. just cant, until kids are in school. couple more years!
I cant wait to read your journal, once you start. are you going to raise awareness for fybromyalgia on this one too? did i even speel thatt rite?

Is it your plan to
through-hike it? What month(s)?
Thanks!

Ohhh... I just sat for quite awhile reading the website. Very well-organized indeed!
Sirena, unless the person named "Li" is a woman, there are apparently no female thru-hikers on their list.
I have this desire to sell everything I own, buy a truck and trailer, and forget about settled domestic life. If I wanted to do a thru-hike I could just store the vehicles somewhere and head on out.

As much as I would love to thru-hike it all in one shot, I can't take that much time off of work. So I would do it in sections, similar to how I hiked the AZT, but take it at a more leisurely pace. I would imagine it would take me several years to hike the whole thing, as there are other areas I would like to explore as well (especially hiking more in the Grand Canyon)
I haven't thought about it enough to decide if I would make it another awareness walk for fibromyalgia, it was a lot of work but maybe it would be easier the second time around.
Yes, Li is a man, he thru-hiked it this spring and has a great photo album here:

te-wa- have you joined the Yahoo group? It seems to be a growing resource for the trail. And I agree the AZT website is definitely lacking.
Now, I have to figure out how to sell the idea that I will be doing another long trail to Mr. Sirena....
