Howdy:

I'm planning a North Route Rainbow Bridge backpacking trip in the Page, AZ area in April and need to hire someone for a lengthy shuttle for 6 hikers. We'll need to go from Wahweap Marina outside of Page to the north side of Navajo Mountain.

Does anyone know of or have a contact for a shuttle service in Page?

Remember to stop for some lamb stew from the roadside stand along the way. Hope that the cooler(s) don't get left behind this time..... ;)
I often enjoy Tony Hillerman books-on-tape (cd) when driving in this area. It adds quite a bit to the story to be IN the areas he describes while listening to his books.

Bummer... he was terrific. According to the City website, Harry Mendoza is the mayor of Gallup, although Leo would make a wonderful mayor.

We all know how Gallup can be..... seems the mayor is leading the pack....

GALLUP, N.M. (AP) - Police are investigating a fistfight between a New Mexico mayor and the publisher of the city's newspaper.

Police say Gallup Mayor Harry Mendoza and Bob Zollinger of the Gallup Independent each claims the other started the fight. Both reported it to police.

Sgt. Erin Pablo says the district attorney's office will decide where anyone will be charged. Prosecutors did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

The incident happened Wednesday outside a Gallup bank. The bank's surveillance video shows the two men hitting and chasing each other. It was about five minutes before witnesses broke up the fight.

Police say the fight centered around stories published by the newspaper linking Mendoza to the gang rape of a teenage girl in 1948 when Mendoza was 16 years old.


Holy crap! He was 16 in 1948.... he's 78 years old and gets in a fist fight..... nothing like the rez.......

When are you going to be doing the hike. I live in Page and we're going to be doing a RB trip in April as well...

I think you're doing it the weekend before. Can you leave a 6-pack for us at the Bridge? lol

Just for future reference for folks...spoke with Betty and the ride from Wahweap to the North Rainbow bridge trail runs $200 for the two of us plus my dog. Considering the distance and all of the backcountry driving involved to get us to the trailhead probably not a bad price. Now if I could just find a boat operator that would pick us up from the bridge, sail us back to the marina and be willing to allow my dog on board...
