New User Name?

I've noticed a couple members have new user names... Wally, Dave (Mr. Clean? :sl: ) How come? Your old user names aren't embarrassing or stupid like mine is (I will never divulge the meaning behind it). When I first joined, I didn't put much thought into my screen name, thinking I'd probably remain one of those invisible members. But, experiencing regret for it a short time later, I couldn't find any way to change it except to join again under a different name. Looking now, I still can't find a way to do it so, I'm guessing Joe performed this magic trick, possibly because you didn't want your full names up here? I'm wondering, are you fugitives and is there a reward? :sl:

I never intended my login to be my screen name but as usual I wasn't paying attention when I first signed up. I even forgot I signed up for almost 2 years and it said "that name already exists" when I went to sign up again. I was going to shorten it to my first name but that is used so I used the street name of my favorite superhero.

I changed mostly for consistency. Most forums I'm on now I use azdesertfather, it takes my real name out of it and is easy for people to remember. This site was the only one really left with that old clumsy name.

"snakemarks" is cool, what's behind that name??

Agreed, don't change it Kat!

My username is one I've used off and on since I was about 18, when I identified closely with the punk scene, but also identified with the pacifist ideals of "hippies" and added the pirate part mainly for humor. I look much more like hippie nowadays, although I'm not grungy nor do I alter my state of mind very often, so I'm not really a hippie either. I pondered changing my name but I figured it doesn't matter a whole lot. It's unique and everybody on here is familiar with it, and the "HPP" abbreviation stuck (I believe Hank coined it first) which is kind of catchy and cool so I'm keeping mine even if I'm not much of any of those stereotypes anymore (although I have been know to pirate music every now and then).

Jake, your username rules. Don't change it! :)

Joe: What was it before? TevaJoe? ;)

wallywest: Appropriate. Mild-mannered, regular guy ducks behind nearest boulder, unzips pant legs and becomes... UberTrekker! : rambo :
azdesertfather: ..... awwwwww! Also appropriate as you are building future generation HAZers :worthy:

Hippie: Agree with Preston - it stays! 8)

Dave - 'snakemarks' definition not rated for this forum. Explanation is not desert related and unlikely to be anything you might guess. It was my biker nickname when I lived in Chicago and that's all I'm sayin.

My son came up with mine, years ago. He was about 16 at the time, and informed me it would be cool to not have the "er" at the end, but just the "r." I am azliz on one forum that is work-related, but otherwise I have stuck with this one.

The problem with changing it is that most people won't remember who you were before. This is ok, if that is your intention! :D But, for example, I remember azdesertfather's avatar, but can't for the life of me remember his previous screen name, even though I realize he just changed it in the past few days! :?

I think te-wa used to be MikeinFHaz???

hey, not bad, Liz. mike in fh az was taken sometimes to look like mike in F***HAZ
which, i was told by at least one person. and te-wa means many things in many languages, it is a language in fact, right here in AZ. But i did not know that until after the trail name was taken by me, as at the time it was described as "flying squirrel" in Cherokee.
there was only one time as a mod i had to look into someone's screenname, allanalexndr i think it was.. I had to make sure he was legit, before i saw that he wasnt just being smart.. (all analxndr) look at it closer, if you must.

howz it going, dshillis?

Screen names just confuse me, it's hard enough remebering one name/face connection, and sceen names, not to mention changing ones, are a pain. I'm not going to say anything here that I won't take responsibility for, so what's the point of a different name? I changed mine to my name on other sites years ago, used to be "LDHiker" for long distance hiker, taken when I thought 40 miles was a long ways. And some people thought it meant "lady hiker." I don't know why I didn't change my name here at the time, probably couldn't figure out how.

...guess I could switch mine to OldMike... but was hoping to save that for my 70's... or whenever I hit the day when I could no longer make 12,000' over the course of a day hike...

I can't take credit for "coining" your HPP (maybe Bob?), but I do remember when it first appeared on a pic comment of yours and have always thought it was very 8)

HEHE... I heard this many many times. It is infact just my full name without some vowels, and even had some buddies question it for good reason...
I'm legit... :sl:
Edit to add: The ideal break up of the user name would be (allan alxndr)

Searching back through comments on my photos and triplogs, it looks as if Joe himself coined "HPP" back in January of 2009, although there may have been a forum post earlier than that using the abbreviation...

I think I might change my user name? Any suggestions? I am leaning towards "lazyhiker". ;)

Also, I like, "thehikerformerlyknownasjhodlof"

I searched the database to cure my HPP curiosity.

The 1st forum post was by Nick in March '09 in his best Tone Loc voice
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3919&start=20

The 1st photo comment was as HPP noted
tj 602 wrote:HPP you're a cross between Chevy Chase in Fletch & Michael J Fox in Teen Wolf
However I was rather embarrassed when I praised the beautiful HPP when I meant to say HHP in a triplog through Hell's Hip Pocket

The 1st triplog comment was by Nick too

Nick adds to the mystic of Sedona by calling it sedone. Perhaps an ism or a new and upcoming meditation technique?

Maybe I'm missing some posting areas, I thought someone else said it first... ?

At any rate I hearby vote that Nick changes his screen name to frickNaley

Has anybody else mixed up the escape club in their head recently with the wally wally west?

1. i don't think i came up with HPP, though i'd like to take the credit for it anyway.
2. that's the way i both spell and pronounce sedone (it'a a long-e sound at the end...nice and indiana-hick sounding, right? just like yosemite sam might do)
3. i'd be happy to change my name to fricknaley...i kinda like it
