I am thinking of doing a Reavis Ranch -> Frog Tank -> Roger's Canyon loop this April. Has anyone ever stayed in the creek for the North part of the Frog Tank trail? Also is there a year round water source near Angel Basin.

Yes I have hiked the stream and it can be done. As I recall you have to do part of it to enter or exit Rough Canyon.

The most reliable water source is at the junction of Fish Creek and Rogers. If that is dry just go downstream Fish Creek from that junction to the first large pool of which HAZ users have posted pictures of and told about in the trip reports. I have never seen it dry but have seen it green in the heat of the summer during drought years and frozen to the depth that you could walk across it in the winter.

Once you get into Paradise Canyon it's a little brushy (but not too much catclaw), however we only did a little part of it.

Slow going for sure.

However the high and fast water as a result of the many and heavy rains have probably cleaned out much of the catclaw and such along all of the drainages in the Superstitions making them much more easy to traverse now.

I know it's late notice but I'm doing that this weekend Sat-Mon. I'm asking the same question about water sources also 4-10 thru 4-12?

I do not have a report from that area, but have been to other places last week.

Some of the creeks with smaller watersheds are beginning to dry up in places: stagnant pools alternating with decent pools. The smallest are basically dry. The larger creek systems are still flowing well.

My guess would be that portions of Frog Tanks to still be flowing, particularly at the confluence of Rough/Rogers/Paradise. Reavis creek is reliable year round.

It was the best hike so far. The diversity is amazing. If you come from the south it's less mileage than the way I went but the two night stay was nice. You might be able to get to Fish Creek Canyon-Roger's Canyon-Rough Canyon if you left in the afternoon on Friday and didn't stop at the ruins. If you do come from the south I would recommend going clockwise on this loop and staying at the junction of the canyons noted above.
The route I posted: http://hikearizona.com/location_g.php?GPS=8958 is very accurate. You'll easily find water the rest of the month if you go. Coming up out of the canyon is a mean hump but it's fine if you stayed the night and are rested and attack it in the morning. It's a south facing slope and will get hot in the afternoon. My route cut off at Plow Saddle because I was coming out at the north end. You can continue on to Reavis and stay another night if you want. The catclaw was tough but not unmanageable in Roger's canyon to Frog Tanks. Just wear long sleeves and long pants. I posted photos. That spot at the confluence of the valleys is excellent!
