Part of the iconic Udall political family. This guy was instrumental in establishing Redwood NP, North Cascades NP, Guadalupe Mountains NP, and Canyonlands NP when he was Secretary of the Interior. Additionally, he was from a Mormon family, but liked martinis. He also was an all-conference guard at the U of A, a supporter of bipartisanship because he considered environmental preservation to be an issue that benefits all Americans, and an early champion of Rachel Carson ("Silent Spring"...read it!).
They don't make 'em like that any more.

Same for his brother Mo, and Barry Goldwater, for that matter..

His relatives live next door to me, and I know many others here in town, my kids' high school counselor, my plumber, the locksmith, etc. He and Mo were from St. Johns, though, not Eagar. Apparently, though, the extended family is sharply divided between Republicans and Democrats. (The Eagar branch seems to take the conservative road.)

Stewart Udall was a really great Secretary of the Interior, as I recall.
