Tortilla Well - When did it burn?

My Dad, brother, cousin and I took a cruise back to Tortilla Well yesterday for some nice outdoor activities only to find the area around Tortilla Well to be completely burned.

Does anyone know when this happened? My cousin and I were out there in Nov. of 09 and it wasn't burned. It looks fairly recent, could still smell the burned vegetation and it looks like the result of a careless camper and campfire.

The area burned looks to be about the size of a football field, anyone know what happened? What a bummer, although it looked somewhat contained.

Did any one look into the well ? Found a body in a well once.
