Trail Route from Prescott>Jerome>Sedona>Flag???

Anyone have any thoughts on the possibility of putting together a string of trails that start in Prescott to Jerome to Sedona to the Kachina Wilderness in Flagstaff? It's around 100 miles+. I need a few more maps to really figure it out that I should get in the mail this week but wanted to hear what everyone on here thought. I found a few jeep roads/trails that ATV people use but prefer a trail system that can be linked that is more hiker friendly.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Jeremy

From Oak Creek, use woods canyon and rattlesnake canyon (warning: exposed) to cross I17, probably roadwalk over to the AZT and take that north to flagstaff.

That's really great! Thanks for the feedback. I'm attempting to string the trails together for a 100 mile trail race that would really show off what Arizona has to offer in terms of terrain, geography and just real beauty. Ideally it would at least incorporate Sedona and Flagstaff trails but a climb up and over Mingus would be great going through Jerome and finishing or starting in Prescott. Spending some time on the maps I've found it gets a bit tricky finding trails or forest service roads that all connect each of the towns without having to go 10 miles out of the way or ultimately run completely out of space or trail and have to go off trail. Off trail is great normally but not ideal when trying to keep people on track and not lost. So I'll take these suggestions and take a look. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!!! I'll let everyone know how it's going if they are interested!

The knowledge base for the area you are interested is pretty high around the contributing members. If you post up a map of what you come up with I'm sure others here can help you fill the gaps or give you ideas to make it work.

The traditional pack route was actually northwards up the ridge to the west of Sycamore Canyon, then east across the prairies - much of that route we now call AZ89. You can take trails all the way up Sycamore Canyon, and then the Overland Trail across the top of the canyon, then northeast across Government Prairie to Beale's Wagon Trail to Flagstaff. The stumper I hit is Prescott to Sycamore Canyon.
