Hi All,

I’ve just gotten permits to hike in the Coyote Buttes North area at the end of April, and I’m hoping to find folks who have done this hike and would like to share some advice with me. My first question is what kind of weather might I expect at the Wave at this time of year? I’m a photographer, and am hoping for good light and passable roads to the trailhead. Any advice would be welcome.

I did this hike this past summer when the fires were burning. It was one of the very few hiking areas I could find that was still open. In mid-July it was very hot up there, bordering on uncomfortably so. April should be much better in terms of temperature.

Please post some photos if you do end up going. My camera went on the fritz mid-hike and I ended up with only a handful of photos of the hike in. I was soo ticked! I actually contemplated driving all the way back to Page to buy a disposable.

Enjoy your hike. It is a spectacular area.

We were talking about Coyote Buttes just yesterday when we whizzed by the Paria on the highway heading south. We've spent a lot of time in April at Vermilion Cliffs, Lee's Ferry and Marble Canyon in general. The weather at that time of year is extremely, highly variable. It can be anything and usually can go to extremes of anything, too. It can snow, hail, sleet, rain, blow or be real dry, too. There's absolutely no way to predict what it might be at that time of year. Just know that, no matter what the weather, you will be for a treat! Enjoy!
