Summary: Fire is burning in a remote area of the Rincon Wilderness in
extremely steep and rocky terrain. Fuels include brush and juniper, which
are dry and volatile. Management objective is full suppression. Due in
part to cooler temperatures, fire activity decreased overnight, with
movement to the south and west for a gain of about 200 acres. Rates of
spread have decreased from what they were in previous operational periods.
The east side has been slowed due to sparse fuels and wide drainages. The
fire is currently backing downslope into canyons to the south and
southwest. Crews are continuing line construction to the southwest, and
are working on the northwest corner to keep it from entering Espiritu
Canyon and Saguaro National Park. As it burns into lower elevations,
firefighter access is improved. This combination of factors is leading to
more successful firefighting efforts. Structure protection is available
for ranch buildings in the area. For further information please visit
