I'm a member of this hiking group on meetup.com and these guys do what they call "Death March"es throughout the summer, basically pretty intense hikes earlier on when it's super mega warm out...like their 3pm up Squaw Peak :sl:
I love the idea and wanted to invite you all to join me at this one tomorrow!

It's 530pm, at West Wing Mountain in Peoria.

"N lieu of the boring trail; we will be working the Northwest spine down to the center ridge of West Wing Mountain. We will go about 1.5 miles in; then return. There is some technical and light rock climbing involved. This is NOT for the faint of heart."

So if you have any questions or want to carpool post them asap, I'll be checking this thread today until 5 and then until 445pm tomorrow and then I'm leaving for the hike. Hope some of you can make it! :D

Not being facetious, just curious, but what is it about that trail that is "extreme" like the description keeps saying? Does it require rapelling? 358 feet in a mile is a decent grade, but not obnoxious ... :)

It's more related to the distance traveled.

We saw the same on Hualapai. The beginning of the trail was rated "Easiest" yet it was the second steepest segment. Only the summit of Hualapai was steeper.

Sunrise and Westwing are smack dab in the middle of very family oriented neighborhoods. While it may seem ridiculous to avid hikers it gets the point across to those that truly need it. Hualapai gets a fair number of senior citizens like the White Tanks.

it didn't seem all that extreme to me...maybe I did it wrong  it was freakishly hot when we went. never did meet up with the people who were hosting that hike though...will have to try again sometime.
