Break Ins At Phoenix Mountain Parks

Don't recall anyone else posting about this. Stumbled across an article from a couple of months ago about a ring of thieves targeting hikers at Squaw Peak, North Mountain and other local mountain parks. Cops said whatever you do, don't pop your trunk at the trailhead to put valuables in your trunk. The thieves would sit off the trailhead on mountain bikes and wait for people to pop their trunks. As soon as they started hiking they would bust out your side window, pop your trunk and steal whatever you put back there.

Best thing to do is only take a drivers license and your cell phone with you to any of the local mountain parks. Don't try to hide your keys in your bumper or wheel well and don't be obvious about trying to hide stuff after you are parked. Just pull in and go hiking or running with your keys, ID & cell phone.

This happened to a friend of mine, hid his keys and took off for a two hour run. Came back and his wallet was still there, but all his credit cards & ID were gone. Did not know until his credit card company called him about unusual activity on his account.

A couple of years ago my son had his wallet stolen at North Mtn. I told him what a moron he was for leaving it in his truck.
Then I pointed out that the women leave their purses in the engine compartment.
He answered back that since it's North Mtn. Park, where are the men leaving their purses?
