Sad news. To all who knew John or shared a hiking or climbing adventure with him, I share my deepest condolences.

Sad to hear about the loss of this fellow HAZ user.
Perhaps it's time to develop a Memorial Wall, a place on HAZ to list those that have passed on where the rest of us can post memories of the individual(s) and maybe a few select pictures or posts from the individuals contribution to HAZ.

As soon as I saw the name, I wondered and how terrible that it's true! It's always a Tragedy when there's an accident like this, but it hits so much harder when you know them personally.... It's such a huge loss...My Heart goes out to his Family and close Friends....I'm even more Thankful now that I got to see him again recently and enjoy some Hiking with him....He was a wonderful Person....

Wow, just read this and am completely stunned. John was such a wonderful person and loved climbing and the outdoors so much. I have such wonderful memories of our summit of Weaver's Needle and it's hard to believe he's gone now. Deepest condolences to his family.

John was such a great guy. I always enjoyed hiking with him, and he'll be with us in spirit. He will be missed. My strongest condolences go out to his family.

I did 2 hikes with John, and he was very nice guy. He didn't shy away from the bushwhacking, I noted that in my triplog from a hike I did with him. Extremely sorry to hear about this. Here's a nice pic from the hike I did with him, Dave1 and Alex to Massacre falls a few years ago. Rest in Peace.

<3 John is a great man. He is a talented and competent outdoorsman, hiker and climber. I was very fortunate to spend a lot of time with him- such a huge loss of a great advemture friend.

John was one of the sweetest men I have met. I will always fondly remember hiking the "Grandmother Lode" with him. RIP John.

I read this earlier today before his name was released. It always makes me think I hope it wasn't a HAZzer... and too often it has been.
I only met John once but he was a kind person and fun to hike with.
Deepest condolences to family and friends and the brave woman who was with him in the end.
At the very least, he was doing what he loved.
