Very sad story. But if I'm going to lose a loved one, let it be while he's doing what he loves, in the great outdoors, rather than hooked up to tubes in a hospital bed. I hope that's not disrespectful, as I speak as someone whose dad hiked 8 miles (Seven Falls) just weeks before he passed in the hospital. Which truly gives me solace.

@neilends I don't find it disrespectful at all. In fact, Thank you. I feel the same way. I've lost so many loved ones while hooked up to hoses and wires that I've stop visiting people in the hospital. Many people find it disrespectful but I feel that they don't want to be seen like that and I (from experience) don't want to remember them that way... I want my last moment to be a surprise, not only to me but to everyone I know. I couldn't think of a better way to go than on the trail ;)

Not a good weekend for hikers, fatality at White Tanks and the Grand Canyon.

Not that it makes it much better, but the White Tanks incident was incorrectly reported and was actually the incident in the Supes in this thread.
