Have hiked the AZT from Bushnell up past the wrecked trucks for another mile or two. Would like to hike to Boulder Bob's cabin but do not have GPS. Does anyone have any waypoints to share for those of us with no GPS. Thanks. Date: 11/27/14 kapomm

1. Go here and take a good look at the map:
http://hikearizona.com/map.php?MY=9611&M=12

2. Then EITHER select Satellite from the drop-down box at the top right of the map <OR> go here:
http://hikearizona.com/map.php?MY=9611&M=5

3. Take a good look at the terrain for more clues

4. Start at the Bushnell Tanks gate and follow the AZT about 3 miles

5. Turn right (south) and shoot for Boulder Bob's Pass and continue south through the low area and keep an eye out for the few remnants of the cabin that may still be visible. (Not much)

Waypoint for the cabin: 33.82619 -111.4449

Good luck!

I put a cairn for the exit from the drainage. It goes up a small red/brown scree just past a drainage coming down from Boulder Pass.

Thank you CannondaleKid and Matazal. We were close yesterday but no cigar. The cat's claw and small ironwoods are wonderfully sharp; found only 1 cairn and bushwhacked for an hour. Lunch in the streambed, then back to the AZT and north on 1452 back to the Bushnell tanks and corral. Although we missed BB Cabin Trail, the day was still a good one.

I've referenced you maps and the cabin's location for another try.

Have printed your maps and studied them, along with satellite from Google. My question is this: Do I pass the used truck lot and turn south after that point? The next item of real demarcation is the gate which needs to be opened and closed. I'm assuming I go south before that point I do remember seeing a large cairn topped with a piece of granite with quartz streak running through it. Is that the turn for Boulder Bob's Cabin Trail. I intend to hike again this week of Thursday so would appreciate an answer ASAP so that I can make a good plan. Thank you! If nothing else, I'm determined.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I've been out of town hiking the last three days and working on my vehicle all day today.

If you start at the Bushnell Tanks parking area just follow the road to the creek crossing. (I wasn't sure what you meant about the used truck lot because I don't recall passing close to it at all.)

Sorry, I can't help a whole lot more here...
1. The map I provided made use of existing posted GPS tracks of the AZT#21 & Boulder Bob's Cabin route.
2. Personally I have never gone past the last Sycamore Creek crossing on AZT#21 so that part is unknown to me.
3. I have not hiked to Boulder Bob's Cabin from Bushnell, I have always approached it from the south via Forest Road 1704. (It's a very rough 4-mile 4x4 drive followed by a shorter hike.

The used truck lot perhaps refers to the junk cars in the wash? http://hikearizona.com/photo=317165
Yes, you go south east from there. The cairn will be on the right before the gate.
Before you you leave the AZ trail to go into the wash / catclaw look across the wash and see if you can see part of the bank that is clear of flora and a bit to the left of where a creek comes down, now head for this spot and you should find the rest of BB Cabin trail.
Good luck

Again, I thank you. And yes, I meant the trucks in the wash. Last time we hiked #1452 south, then beat the brush for a bit. This time we' lol follow your instructs, Matazal, and your maps, Cannonodale, and I'll let you know if I get there. Although I have 4 wheel drive, my car could use 1704 only if I want one of the AAA off road tows:). More after the hike.

Success! Along with three friends, I found the Boulder Bob Cabin Trail, hiked the pass to the ruins, and returned to the Bushnell Tanks parking lot. Absolutely beautiful day with clouds, some late flowers, and water in Sycamore Creek. Thanks, Canondale and Matazal, for your help. We all had a fabulous day.
