HAZ has friends "writelots" and "mikehikes" on a non-commercial river trip right now, and I know they were in about that area on that particular day. According to other info, a river trip called in the emergency. Mile 29 to 31 has some popular camps used for first or second night on oar trips.
According to info on the internet, Daniel Sarr was a research ecologist for the USGS in Flagstaff. Here is his work profile and a photo of him: https://profile.usgs.gov/dsarr
Anyway, it's a sad thing to happen.
