North or South sections for 3 weeks

I posted this on trail forms too, but this forum seems to be more used for the AZT.

I am planning a few weeks this May on the AZT. If you could only hike a few weeks on the trail, would you recommend starting at the Utah or Mexico border? Both seem to have their benefits. Obviously the Grand Canyon is a big part of the Northern half, but it seems like the Southern has some great desert terrain the might be more of what should be experienced on this trail. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

In May? I'd be careful of where I hiked. Temperatures in May can be well over 100 degrees in the desert. If I could cherry-pick the sections, then I'd hike the ones at the tops of the mountains. If not, then I'd pick something north of the rim, segment 27 and on.

May would be too hot for most in the south. My bad, glanced over that part.

Ya, that time of year, I'd be looking at Mormon Lake, Blue Ridge, Happy Jack, San Fransisco Peaks, etc. Beautiful and temps would be good.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am glad I asked because I didn't realize May was already so hot there. Maybe next year I will be able to get out earlier in the year and do the south section.
