Not a great time for someone to go missing out there. I was up on 5057 on New Years Day when the storms were rolling through, and I was out near Reavis Ranch this whole weekend. Based on the video of those guys, they are NOT prepared for the conditions out there if caught in any meaningful weather.

sounds like they were trying to do the ridgeline starting from Peralta?

A common connection on Facebook suggests the plan was indeed a Ridgeline.

"One of them is my friend's brother. They started up around 9 AM. Around 4 PM one of them put a call in to let family know they were lost. They were supposed to be on the Ridgeline Trail. From one of the videos his friend posted they may have ended up on the wrong trail."

There are some photos from the police response showing trailhead bits, but I can't tell if it's the Peralta TH, or the Carney TH. I haven't been to Peralta in ages, but the pics sure do look like the TH I started at to do Carney recently. That might explain the Wave Cave mention in their Facebook video too. I recall a triplog or writeup warning about it being easy to miss a turn and end up at the Wave Cave.

I suppose they got off track and either didn't get back on before dark or were unable to recognize the way if they did encounter it. It was no doubt a learning experience.

From the video they posted around 11am, they were only 3 miles in with 16 or 17 to go ... should have been clear by then that they weren't going to be able to finish before dark.

Must have brought some new attention to the area, there must have been 50+ cars parked on the road by carnie springs today when I was leaving Peralta around 1:00 today. I've never seen that before.
