He was 40-feet from the summit of Pyramid Peak (14er near Maroon Bells, CO) when a cornice broke and he tumbled 1500-2000 feet down the face of the mountain. He used his shovel to sled down the remaining slope. He built snow caves two nights and had an emergency bivvy and enough fuel to melt snow for water, before making his way to a road where he was able to be rescued.

Lucky guy. Good news story.

Best details are in the Aspen times: http://www.aspentimes.com/news/mountain ... amid-peak/

Good story indeed. Credit goes to the guy for keeping his head in tough times. Hope he makes a full recovery.

This story reminds me of "Touching the Void." a docudrama of sorts about a disastrous climb (also a book, which I haven't read). The movie is fantastic and is well worth your time.

Wow, that is nuts. Glad he survived. Life is madness.
