Common Names: Christmas Cholla
Habitat: among trees or shrubs in deserts, chaparral, grasslands, and woodlands; most often seen in the desert, though.
Flowers: small green, yellow, or bronze colored; fruits are about 0.5 inches long, oval, and bright red, staying on the plant for several months.
Description: 1 to 4 feet tall, with a dense branch structure. Branches are about 0.25 inches in diameter, only 1 spine from each areole: a yellowish central spine 1-2 inches long, surrounded by very tiny barbed "glochid" spines
Comments: the fruit is said to be edible and tasty
