Two permit spots up for grabs this weekend 10/12 - 10/13

If anyone is interested, I have two spots open on my permit for this weekend's trip to Aravaipa. One couple bagged, so it is just me, my wife and my brother-in-law. We are planning on hiking in on Saturday and out on Sunday. None of us has ever been there, so no specific agenda. I was sort of target...

MountainHouse Chicken Polynesian-one for lactose intolerant

MountainHouse Chicken Polynesian It takes me time to find one that has no milk products in it and still tastes good, and this one is it. I like a hot meal when I am out on a hike, and one of these two person meals is just enough for me. If it was not so expensive, I think I would even eat it at hom...

Overnight on the 11th and 12th. My only hesitation on the Teva's is that I will be taking a pack w/ tent, bag, etc... and will most likely be @ 40-50lbs. I have never been to the canyon so I don't think I will be going through the whole thing and back, probably at least 5 mi in and then find a nice ...

Water shoes?? Aravaipa

I'm going to Aravaipa in October and wondering what shoes I need for that trip. I have some nice Teva sandles that I have finished Reavis with while wearing wicking and hiking socks and they were comfortable. I don't really have an old pair of boots that I would still wear (they're usually disintegr...

Romero Pools

I used to go into the Romero Pools through Catalina State Park. Have not been there in quite some time though, but the water was usually OK. Also on the Tanque Verde Ridge trail, there is a small waterfall (Bridal Veil?) that has some water after rains. Not for swimming, but you can let the falls sp...

Thanks for the feedback, the trip is on! I'm going on Friday and taking the kids. Not sure if I'm going in the Flume road way or the shorter route off 708, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

Fossil Springs Question

Question for all: From the Fossil Springs trailhead there is a trail/road that forks right at the trail register. Is the smaller trail on the right the one to the springs? BTW, there were 25 people signed in the register on Sunday.

Tonto Natural Bridge worth the price of admission

Since I had never been there before and threats of closure were looming, I planned a family trip to the Tonto Natural Bridge this past weekend. It was a wonderful trip and a great place to take a carload of kids. We got there a little after 10:00am on Sun and the weather was cool and overcast for ou...
