Fossil Springs Question

Post by aclarkaz »

Question for all: From the Fossil Springs trailhead there is a trail/road that forks right at the trail register. Is the smaller trail on the right the one to the springs? BTW, there were 25 people signed in the register on Sunday.

The proper trail to the spring was on the left. The trail is wide and descends pretty steadily. My group accounted for three of the 25, it was a beautiful day and the spring was very nice. If you do this trip I recommend going at least as far as the dam.

Fork in the road....

Post by chihiggs »

Aclarkaz-- the left fork is the proper trail. The right fork is a common short cut to the trail saving maybe 100 meters--I've seen people using the right and horses using the left.

How busy was the swimminig hole at the springs?

Thanks for the feedback, the trip is on! I'm going on Friday and taking the kids. Not sure if I'm going in the Flume road way or the shorter route off 708, but I'm leaning towards the latter.

I hiked on top of the flume a couple times in my day. My friend even rode inside of it till the end. Crazy! To do that you will have to find a spot where the roof is peeled back. It used to be about 200 yards from the dam. Have any of you been to the old indian caves up there? About 8 years ago we went into them and found some pottery and an arrowhead. Its up on the cliffs if any of you are curiuos.
