The General Fire - Closures at Fred Haught Trail/FR95
7/22/14 update through Blue Ridge Ranger Station:
"General Fire:
Size – 2089 acres
Smoke – Subdivisions within the Blue Ridge community should anticipate a significant decrease in smoke, most ignitions took place yesterday, and have been completed. Some smoke will continue to settle in the evening and early morning hours but will be less than it has been.
Fire Behavior – Just like the Pot Hole fire, the General fire experienced 1-2 foot flame heights across the forest floor. Fire continues to burn within the secure perimeter of the fire.
Remarks – Crews will continue to patrol and work on any hazards so the area can be opened back up for public use.
Fire managers are very pleased with the effects of both (also The Pot Hole) fires, primarily burning a lot of dry debris on the forest floor. They are also pleased with how quickly the burning progressed once things dried out. This was a low-severity fire leaving less fuel that could contribute to severe fire behavior and safer conditions for the public and firefighters."

7/23 update through Blue Ridge Ranger Station:
"GENERAL – The General fire produced significantly less smoke yesterday, and last evening, and smoke should be less with the coming days ahead, particularly with moisture moving back into the area. Today, plans are to mop up along the perimeter of the fire, a hotshot crew has been brought in to assist with today’s activities. Fire managers would like to get the Arizona Trail and Fred Haught trail re-opened to the public as soon as possible."

@Grasshopper
I suspect this one to be what prevented me from parking at Pinchot cabin last weekend. 95 was closed 1 mile south of the 139 turn off.
I was able to park where the U-bar crosses 139 anyway...

@mazatzal
Probably, but there was a lot of smoke in the area too... I could smell it hiking U-Bar all the way to Dane Canyon.

there were cars at Pinchot on 7/4 so I imagine the closure is for the fire.

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Yeah, I noticed that 95 was closed on Thursday when I went up, but open on Monday when I left...Might have something to do with the 1" plus Rain that fell on Saturday and Sunday Nights....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"
