More Mountain Biking Adventure Ideas?

Post by SAMBA »

ASUAviator posted this photo set today, http://hikearizona.com/photoset.php?ID=36963. This post gave me an idea for a couple of possible mountain biking adventures. I've been on the southern section of Cherry Creek Road as far as Devil's Chasm, so I have a pretty good idea CCR would make for a SPECTACULAR bike ride. That said, can anyone (NOTA BENE: CannonDale Kid) tell me about a possible ride from Young Highway DOWN to the Pumpkin Center? Does it have a name I could search on? Any insights yooz guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. CD Kid, I've taken the liberties to try (without success) to find some videos or photo sets on your ChangePhoenix web site of the area from Young Highway DOWN to the Pumpkin Center. Too much data!!!! Could/would you be kind enough to point me to videos or photo sets that would give me a feel for what I might encounter?

TIA.

Yes CCR would be a great scenic ride.

As far as the route to take, use the first part of ASUAviators GPS track, from Punkin Center to Young Highway. Basically FR71 to FR609 to Young highway.

I do have tons of photos from that area but of course very few were of the ROADS. ASUAviator can chime in with the current conditions, but based on your experience biking I'd say it wouldn't be bad. The worst would be going down from Juniper/Picture Mountain area were it is pretty rocky.
I'll see what I can come up with for photos.

@CannondaleKid
Yo CD Kid,

I just broached the notion of biking Cherry Creek Road with my mountain bikin' buddy, Tom, and he's "all in" on the idea. As for the segment from Young Highway to Punkin Center, I took your advice and sent a reply to ASUAviator via a comment on his Sierra Ancha 4x4 Loop photo set requesting any additional insights he might care to share.
I do have tons of photos from that area but of course very few were of the ROADS.
Age and accidents have conspired to make my mountain biking less about the "ROADS", and almost everything to do with the scenery. I'm not too proud to walk sections of a ride as long as it's far more a fun bike-a-hike than a tedious hike-a-bike. If you've got pictures that meet those criteria, then PLEASE send me links to get to them.

Thank you.

The roads were too smooth?
Or maybe the likker highs couldn't compete with scenic highs? ;)
