Phoenix Haters
A friend of mine emailed me this inflamitory article about Phoenix posted on a Philadelphia website. It was written due to the fact that we make take their place as the fifth largest city in the nation.

Any thoughts?

I suggest posting your thoughts here
I personally have no words. Sour grapes? Bitter east coast bias? Plain old bitter?
I would love to spend the time and dig up all the faults and miscreants that have plagued Philly the "city of brotherly love" and have their paper post it as a response - but that will never happen.
Absolutely unbelievable article.

AMAZING
Thanks for sharing the article, I had heard a bit on the news about it, but didn't see the article til now.
I don't know what is more scary--the fact that this man had to write such an outrageously bias article to make Phoenix look bad and Philly look good, or the fact he is so hung up and went way off the deep end about losing the 5th place title. Either way, it's not worth reading any more of his articles. He appeals to a few small minded people.
I just moved here and I can't say anything bad about Phoenix or Arizona! In fact, I'm always telling everyone how great it is. Sure every place has it's good and bad points, but what is the point of talking trash about a city? I lived near Gary, there are still good points with Gary even tho it is known as the murder capital *sigh*. I was born in Chicago, I would get "are you related to gangsters?" LOL
With this article, I pity the man more than the way he is trying to make Phoenix seem bad. I think it's the "man that's bad" and he needs to do some cleaning up in his mind and heart. I wonder if he realizes alot of the reason Philly lost residents is because they most likely moved to Phoenix to retire!!! LOL He just slammed his fellow Philly resident retirees!!!! DUH!!!!
Hmmm I think I said in another forum I was off my soap box and going to watch soap operas.... LOL I am now!!

You guys want to hear something funny?
Downtown Mesa has one of the biggest halfway-house programs in the country (they take recovering dope-fiends and teach them how to function in society again, its usually court ordered). I grew up in and work in downtown Mesa and have met many of these halfway house residents, most of them are heroin addicts and, here comes the funny part, most of them are from philly

I'm FROM Philly (in the Valley since '85).
Poo-Poo'ing things (even their own sports teams, and such) is the local pastime in Philadelphia now-a-days.....
'bout the only MAJOR positive I can say about Philly is that about +/- 227 years ago some Philly folks had the fortitude and foresight to design, fight for and implement a free country.
Let's endeavor to keep it that way, don't let them down.
God Bless America.

Hopefully everyone in philly believes the article. Less people to clog up our freeways.
I've been to Philly and there is no comparison. There are only 2 places I've been in my life where I said I would never go back to. Philly is one of them.

After reading the article, I would say it's fair to say that about +/- 226 years ago, "most" of the intelligent people left Philly. :roll:hikeaz wrote:'bout the only MAJOR positive I can say about Philly is that about +/- 227 years ago some Philly folks had the fortitude and foresight to design, fight for and implement a free country.

OUTSTANDING ARTICLE
Are you kidding?...I LOVE this article! Everything in it is absolutely factual...my goodness - why would anyone ever want to live here? I hope this article continues to receive an amplitude of publicity, and that more follow in suit also dogging AZ (not in retaliation - that would be lowering to their standards.) Frankly, I'm getting sick of dreading when I leave late to work and have to fight what I call l traffic (which is comparable to Sunday at 2:00 a.m. back east.) I could go on and on about the wonderful things about AZ, and how the infiltration of people tends to lesson the enjoyment of each, but, now why would I do that? That article professes EXACTLY what I want the rest of the states to know - AZ SUCKS! Now stop coming - go back, and please, let Philly regain 5th place again.

WHOA!
What an article, it scared me so I did some speed reading on the highlights.
I do not consider myself a Phoenix Hater, hate is such a harsh word; however, I have commented to family and friends on how I wish the desert would swallow up the whole Valley of the Sun. Now, before you HAZer's come running up to Prescott Valley way to lynch me,
let me me validate this comment.
*I was born in Phoenix.
*I remember when Christown was the Mall! And on a good trip to the east side, Thomas Mall.
*You needed a survival kit to get to New River.
*Luke Air Force Base was in the middle of No Where.
*Driving up I-17 when it was a two lane.
*Legend City was the best amusement park in the world.
*Soap Box derby in South Mountain.
*They kicked us out of the house in the late sixties, to make way for I-10, twenty plus years later.
*WALLACE AND LADMO RULED!!!!!!
I could go on.
No, hate is a harsh word, therefore, with rare exception, e.g. the HAZ BBQ, I do avoid the Valley of the Sun like a plague as a rule.
After all, in all fairness, our area is a cancerous growth as well, with the recent immigrants from California. We have a big mall, even.

LOL That's a good one Marlee. I agree. That article professes EXACTLY what I want the rest of the states to know - AZ SUCKS! Now stop coming - go back, and please, let Philly regain 5th place again.
I know a few people in Philly through work and it's hilarious hearing them whine during the winter months about how they would really like to visit/move to Phoenix.

After reading that article I was left with the thought "to each their own", or better put "what-ever".

When people ask me where i am from/ where i grew up..They always look at me a little crazy when i tell them I was born here in Phoenix. To be more specific....i was born at what once was Williams Air Force Base.Abe wrote:

I too remember Thomas Mall. If i remember correctly it was the first air conditioned mall in arizona? Or was that Chris-town?
When my grandparents moved here back in the late 40's their house (which they still live in) was not considered to be in the city limits (general area...44th street/Mcdowell). They were in maricopa county.
But, Abe, i have to ask, were you fortunate enough to get a Ladmo Bag?

Admit it!!Marlee wrote:That article professes EXACTLY what I want the rest of the states to know - AZ SUCKS! Now stop coming - go back, and please, let Philly regain 5th place again.

Thanks for sharing the Legend City site JimmineyGrl. Yes Ladmo passed on in 1994 and I was floored when I heard the news. A part of Phoenix history gone forever.JimmineyGrl wrote:I remember Wallace and Ladmo! I think I was still a child when Ladmo died.

I remember Wallace and Ladmo--and Chris Town and all of that. I have always avoided Phoenix however because it is so big and everything seems to be so far away from everything else. Flagstaff is too big for me now but it is home. It was about 7000 people when we were kids here. All of our play places are covered up with houses now.

Uuuggghhhh, I can't stand Philly!!!
For any of you who would like to be able to identify Philadelphians in the wild please refer to this handy dandy identification guide:
http://www.mulletsgalore.com/
This is a very valuable and useful resource for those folks that are interested in viewing Americanus Cheeseballicus or more commonly known as the North American Mullet Headed Weasel in it's natural environment.
If you encounter one of these wild animals please use extreme caution as they are often unpredictable, bad natured and usually drunk.
