West Clear Creek

Post by mjmann »

Hi Folks,

Was wondering if anyone can recommend the best route for West Clear Creek 17 that is about a 5 to 6 miles round trip hike and includes some of the great water holes I've seen in the galleries. We would be traveling from Phoenix and would like the easiest quickest way to get there too.

Thanks to all in advance,

Marty

Hey Marty,
Head up I17 to Camp Verde off ramp, go east through town. (Note: if you need gas, it is 1.57 by the highway, in Camp Verde it's 1.42 to 1.47) Go East past town about 3 miles, look for the dirt road on the left, signed (brown sign) Bullpen ranch & Beaver rec area (I think), it's not far. If you see Clear Creek campground, you went too far. Follow the dirt road to the Bullpen turnoff (right), about 3-4 miles to the lot. Keep going straight, you can't miss it.
After the second water crossing, start looking on the side trails towards the creek, you will find camp sites along the next 1/2 mile. The further up the creek you go, the nicer it is, but fewer camp sites because the creek is less accessible (= less people).

Good luck

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for the quick reply and the info. I assume the dirt road can be traveled by car too? I have a 4 wheel drive but others who may go..do not.

Again, appreciate your help.

I saw all kinds of vehicles in the lot. Just a bit of washboard on the road.
