Any vehicle break-in's on Passages #1 thru #4?

Post by Moondust »

A hiking buddy and I will be section-hiking Passages #1 thru #4 in late October or early November. Have there been any instances of vehicle break-in or damage of vehicles parked at trailhead points? We will be leaving a vehicle at each end of the daily route and then retrieving at the end of the day to avoid parking an unattended vehicle overnight.

Any tips about vehicles for these southern passages?

Thanks so much!!

A friend and I day hiked those passages a couple years ago via car shuttle. We had no problems with our parked vehicles and I don't recall seeing any evidence of car break-ins such as broken safety glass on the ground. However, conditions change with time so I would recommend contacting the Trail Stewards for those passages for more current info:

Break ins unfortunately happen all over the state from time to time, the best protection is to never leave valuables in plain sight. This includes phones, wallets, keys, GPS, phone chargers, or anything that might make someone think there is something valuable and easy to grab.

Think about leaving a car in Patagonia and doing it all out of there,
