crawdads

Post by red-ass »

go out and catch some crawdads,it's a good way to help maintain the balance of life in our streams (they're alien to the area) by limiting their numbers, also they're great eating. i've caught them big enough to grill the tail like mini-lobster tails, tasted just like lobster when dipped in garlic butter. the easiest way i know to cook a big batch is in a large pot with louisiana crab boil (zatarains) and new potatoes and halved ears of corn. no matter if you dip in shrimp cocktail sauce or the garlic butter they're good and bountiful,so help the ecology of our streams and eat well by doing it.

When I was seven, I caught about fifty at Christopher Creek and my dad cooked them for dinner. Not bad!

Though they are a lot of work to eat, I still enjoy catching them. I find it more entertaining than fishing.

You can catch a lot if you use one of those wire baskets which are used to keep fish alive after you catch them, just hook open the spring loaded top and put a piece of bacon or ham on a safety pin....the just pull the basket up rapidly....this way you can get to a little deeper water where the larger ones are.......
You can also use a plastic bottle, preferably clear so you can see when you have the little critters inside.......just punch a hole in one side for them to enter....they're smart enough to get in but not quick enough to escape thru the hole when you retrieve it......
I have caught hundreds at woods canyon lake.....but remember also....they are scavengers and the do keep the lakes somewhat cleaner...
All Who Wander Are Not Lost, and I do walk to the beat of a different drummer.....'cause I lost my drum
