Looking For Weekend Escape - What towns?

Post by SpiderLegs »

On the long drive back from Portal, me and the missus plotted out part of our future retirement and decided that we could probably swing a second place for long weekend escapes. Don't mind temps in the 90's as long as it cools off at night, which leaves a bunch of the high desert area on the table. Want to see if our short list is missing anything. Looking for a place within 3 hours max of Tucson, 10-15 degrees cooler during the day, smaller town with at least two places to eat and bonus points for a place that has a bar to hit for the occasional happy hour. My wife does WFH and needs strong and reliable internet if we decide to stick around for a week or two. Of course the more hiking trails an area has will tip the scales.

Right now we have Silver City, Patagonia and maybe Portal as the leading candidates. Where else should we look? Probably hitting Bisbee on our next weekend getaway.

I'd put Glenwood NM on the list.

Probably too hot but Ajo would be interesting. Gateway to some great desert areas.
