I've always been curious as to the meaning of the various paint markings on trees.
I ran into a knowledgeable National Forest Service employee on a hike today and asked him.
I was hiking through an area that is scheduled to be thinned soon and this is what he told me.
Blue means, cut down. Orange means save, do not cut. All others are fair game to be cut.
I asked if they used this same system throughout the state, and he said for the most part.

I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.
