Grand Falls photo op

Post by montezumawell »

The 9-9 Storm brought Grand Falls to a 9-10 flow peak near 3,000 cubic feet per second. You can see the hydrograph here:

There is another pulse of water heading toward Grand Falls that offers a "second chance" to see Mudball Falls in its warm weather grandure.
The water came from the Rio Puerco watershed NE of Chambers, AZ. The Pig River peaked near 5,000 cfs and almost half of that water is now clearing the Joseph City gage on the Little Colorado. Friday 9-12 is a pretty good bet for viewing Grand Falls at another peak surge. The weekend will be OK, too, as far as that goes, because anything over 500 in the summer time is really fun to view. Anyway, if your a waterfall junkie, you ain't seen nothing yet until you see Grand Falls--there really ain't nothin' like it nowhere!

Here is the USGS flow page:

Wish we could be there to enjoy it with you.

OK for The Falls!

Post by montezumawell »

Well, even though the second peak of water has probably passed Grand Falls, there should be enough there to make the trip worthwhile both Saturday and Sunday. After that, forget it until next spring snowmelt--(unless there is a 2nd coming of the warm weather wet stuff this year, of course.)

In response to montezumawell's reply: Thanks for the info. We went up there on Saturday and 5 other cars appeared while we were there. We followed the 1610 road and it was pretty good.
