Aztec Peak/Abbey Way
Are there any hike descriptions on this site about Aztec Peak or the Abbey Way trail?

I was up there this spring & I believe that the nearby forest was burned in the past year or two (Pine Mtn. burn??) so the surroundings are not at their best

Re: Aztec Peak/Abbey Way
In response to Pythor Sen's reply: I hiked up this trail a few months ago. The difficulty was not in going uphill, but in having to climb over a fallen tree every couple of feet. (The Coon fire ripped through here a few years ago.) I was sore and covered in soot by the time I reached the top of the peak, but the views as well as the "Flintstone Furniture" were worth the exertion. At the time, I did not know this trail was named "Abbey's Way", so that also made the adventure worthwhile. Edward Abbey was "stationed" in the Aztec Peak lookout tower back in the 70's. If you've not read any of his books, I would definitely recomend them as well as a hike up this trail. The apple orchard in the meadow on the lower part of the trail is pretty cool, too! Have fun, Wendy
