Grand Falls

WOW!!! I just saw some pictures of that place. It's incredible! Just from the pictures, those falls look intense and for lack of a better word savage. That's an enormous amount of power there, and I can't wait to go. If I'm looking at the chart correctly, July or August would be the time to go, right?

Unless it's a very heavy monsoon season, the falls would be dry in summer. The ideal time to do is in the spring after all the rains, or after the snowmelt.

But we are in the middle of the longes drought in recorded history for phoenix at like 120 days with no rain. So this spring would probably be bad as well.

As Tim pointed out, March & April lead, followed by August, with regards to highest quantity per month.

Below is a link to the real-time flows... (the cfs # is a bit more meaningful for gauging the falls than the gauge height.

In response to cficken's reply: grand falls is barely a trickle most of the time, even in wet years. it is fed from snowpack. But it is incredible if you catch it after a good snowmelt. But, whatever you do, enjoy : king :

ahhh..finnally, a GREAT snowpack in the headwaters of the Little Colorado. When it melts it should make for a glorious sight at Grand Falls! This is a place that everyone should see it its full glory, during runoff : king :

Grand Falls is jammin' now....... just below flood stage.......get out there for a real (chocolate) treat!
