Grandview Trail to re-open ahead of schedule

Post by hikeaz »

Grand Canyon, AZ - August 31, 2005– The Grandview Trail, which was expected to be closed until October after a rock slide in March eliminated a quarter-mile section of the trail, will be opening September 1, 2005. "Crews have been working very hard to get this trail open and have managed to open the trail a full month earlier than planned", said Facilities Manager, John Beshears. "Crews have done some amazing work on this very steep section of trail."

Regularly scheduled trail maintenance work on other sections of the Grandview Trail will be continuing, however the trail will remain open to the public during this work.

Backcountry permits for the Grandview Trail have not been issued for any requests prior to October. With the early opening, permits will now be available for September on a first come first served basis.

Temperatures in the inner canyon continue to be warm. Park rangers emphasize avoiding trouble by `hiking smart" and suggest that all hikers plan their hike well before they start; hike during the cooler, shadier times of the day; eat salty foods and drink enough water or sports drinks, and to go slowly and rest often in the shade.

Further information on hiking and how to obtain a backcountry permit in Grand Canyon National Park can be obtained on-line at http://www.nps.gov/grca, or by calling the Backcountry Information Center at
(928) 638-7875.

I hiked this trail in Oct. I had previously hiked it ten years before. It is much improved. The trail crew did a really good job!

A few people on this site have. I've hiked it twice this winter. The last time was about a month ago, and the trail had a lot of snow and ice. It was kinda scary.
You should just look up the Grandview Trail on this site and read the triplogs. That would have answered your question.

The trail is in great shape, just about all the snow and ice should be gone soon if it's not already. You can really see they put A LOT of work into repairing the trail.

Ditto, I hiked it last Oct. The trail crew did an amazing job! Also, the trail to Miner's (Page) Springs is a lot better than I remembered it. They worked on that one at some point, also.
