Planning 3 day backpack trip starting at Miles TH around January 15th. Have purifier.
Plan A: Backpacking to Black Jack spring on Fireline trail and staying overnight there. Anyone know if can count on water there, and if there is a decent campsite for two tents in that area?
Also does anyone know water status @:
- Bushy spring on Campaing trail.
- Creeks near Oak Flat.
- Yellow Jacket spring on Rock Creek Trail.
Supers: Backpack from Mile TH. Water?

Black Jack spring was bone dry when I visited that area in January. Its been a number of years though.
Brushy Spring was also dry, but there was water in pools along Campaign Creek to the south of Brushy Spring. Again, though, this was several years back.

Many of the springs on the maps covering the Superstition Wilderness were nothing more than improved seeps. The cattleman would dig them out, install metal pipes that ran down to either wood, concrete or metal watering troughs for the cattle. Many of these so called springs no longer have the pipe and water troughs so don't trust on finding water at them unless you can find the original seep and hope its running.
IE - don't rely on a spring unless you know where it is and what the chances are that it has flowing water.

In response to Lizard's reply: Lizard and Super Guy: Thanks for the responses. I am hoping to get lucky enough to find someone who has been in that area since the recent 2 days of rain in December, though I know that the Miles TH does not get a lot of use compared to other areas. I am pretty familar with water conditions in the region, having done a Reavis- Frog Tanks- Rogers Canyon loop in January 06.
