Maxwell Trail into West Clear Creek May 19-20

Post by te_wa »

Let's take the short and steep Maxwell trail into the heart of Arizona's Rim country where you will spend a night amongst some of the state's finest riparian areas. This hike brings you to the start of WCC where it forms from the confluence of Clover and Willow creeks, complete with rainbow and brown trout, squirrels, ringtails, and bears. This place has a very wild feel to it, is often overlooked by backpackers because of its rugged terrain. Were going to hike down the steep but short (.7 mile) trail to an area downstream with fantastic swimming holes and a large camp "site". There is plenty to explore since the hike only takes an hour. The rugged natural beauty of this canyon will blow you away and make you a fan for life (in fact, this is our THIRD trip there). Returning Sunday afternoon.

I would never miss a Maxwell trip. It is one of my favorite places. Maybe this trip the bear will let me sleep through the night. Noisy chums.

My younger brother(20) is going along as well. Should be a fun little trip as always.

Even though my tendons seem to not want to heal, I should probably go on this trip. I will catch dinner.

as you would expect, a short trip like this one requires all the luxuries you can pack so expect to have fresh trout fried in Normandy butter with sea salt and ground pepper in a Sweet Maui Onion potato chip batter. Followed by a cup of Chardonnay and some Jack Daniel's to sip as you recline further into your thermarest chair. Andrew's plan is to defend the camp from bears with his bare hands... so i'll be taking bets as the Maxwell Bookie/cameraman.

everybody sign up, as this may be your last chance to hike with the famous DesertRoux, he will be moving to Virginia's Appalachian country at summer's end.

I'd love to return to Maxwell, there just aint enough time in my life  damn

So, uh, here's how my Friday evening went:

"Hey baby, want to do an overnight trip with some of the gang from the Tony Cabin trip. It's an easy 1 mile hike with swimming, fishing, relaxing, eating, and partying."
"That sounds great!"
"OK. It'll be the weekend after this coming one."

A few minutes go by.

"Oh, Matt, did I tell you that my brother and his girlfriend are coming to visit?"
"Uh, no. When?"
"This month."
"When 'this month'?"
"The 19th or 20th."

Insert a string of curse words here.

"Oh, is that the weekend of the trip?"
"Yeah, Dangit!"

I need an excuse to get out of these silly obligations. I'm not even married yet! I will find a way to make everyone happy. Why do I have to have out of town company that weekend? Why?

god hates me.

Bummer luck Matt. Just tell them your hiking friends need help carrying luxe supplies. For their forgiveness in your absence, you will bring them some creek fresh trout. :D

naw, in my book (married man's guide to planning) he/she who makes plans and STATES said plans to significant other FIRST gets to fulfill his/her wish. You made such a statement before she mentioned her little brother. You win!

Besides, you have to see my new camera. Its really high tech... in fact, the shutter speed is SO fast that you can take a picture of a woman with her mouth shut! :o

Howdy,
This looks like it will be a good time and a nice short first outing for me. The wife said she would come too if more women decide to go.

What kind of vehicles does everyone have?

The road out there isn't bad but high clearance for sure. Mike and I both, have SUV's that fit 4 comfortably. My brother is taking his dog so in turn, I will be bringing mine. We can fit both dogs in his truck plus one person. That leaves 4 people I believe. Just some thoughts. 8)

I have a Montero Sport with 32" tires. Seats 4 comfy, or 3 skinny dudes in the back w/ 2 up front.
Will easily hold 5 packs.
Given enough gas money, I'll drive anywhere
