Babe Haught to Knoll Lake

Post by te_wa »

I found a great late summer backpack to call it wraps on the high elevation as the next few weeks will allow us to stay down here in our desert playground(s)... until they open the Supes for the season, Im going to hike at the Babe Haught trailhead, near Tonto fish hatchery and go up the rim to Knoll lake. It looks like 5.5 miles one way, but the best parts are that you will get a workout, have spectacular views of the valley below with Mazatzals, Sierra Ancha, and the many smaller but cool peaks like Asbestos and Colcord.
Dont forget, once at Knoll Lake we are rewarded with cool pines, fly fishing, and chillin' among the aspens. check out the pics for "Babe Haught" trail. very nice.

This will be an overnight backpack trip departing Phx. area on Sat morning and returning Sun late day after lunch at the Beeline Cafe (obligatory)

Maybe I'll join up to fish, depends on when I work (I'll have one day off but not the other)
No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy, even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength

I was just back there about a week ago, the back section is very shallow and the fishing there was horrible, you had to hike towards the main section of the lake to catch anything, but it was very picturesque back there
An adventure is merely an inconvience rightly considered

I was up at Knoll lake a month or so again and that is one of the most amazing lakes I've ever been to. Didn't catch squat but the experience was incredible. Wish I could make this hike.

well fortunatly, fly fishing not only varies by the week, or by the day, but by the hour. So what Im going to do is go and fish, and see what happens. I read that there are a couple of nice campspots on the East side, and that may get to the mid section or closer to better fishing... I shall know that when I know it. Looking at some of those Aspens really makes me want to get up there and hang, soon. ;)
