Aspiring to Wusslessness

Post by azbackpackr »

I hate being a wuss. I have been wussing out of riding my bike since late Dec. Today the temperature was in the low 40's and it was sunny, with a light breeze. I put on an awful lot of layers and started out on my road bike. Within 5 minutes I turned around and went back in and took off some of the layers. I ended up with a lined REI bike windbreaker, a light fleece shirt and a long underwear shirt, and long tights. My gloves were not warm enough and I could have used some neoprene socks, but otherwise this worked well for the temperature. The roadways are dry, but there is still snow in a lot of places. Some places it has melted off, other places not. Our valley is open and is at only 7,000 feet, so doesn't hold snow like Greer, Sunrise, etc., where there are still many feet of it.

I ended up riding 22 miles, just all around town. I call it the Round Valley Swoop. If you were to do all the available swoops you probably would get in 50 miles. I swooped up Water Canyon, and back down, then I swooped up and down a few other side streets. You can also swoop up 260, and back down, but I didn't today. I swooped Airport Rd. and the Road To Nowhere by the airport. You can swoop 60 in both directions, the Casa Malpais road, and 180 toward Nutri, too There are lots of swoops you can do, and if you had GPS tracking, it would make a sloppy star design on your map.

Tomorrow, though, I am going skiing again! 'Nuff of this swooping!
