Bell Trail - Trailhead

Post by gygeek »

Does anyone have any current information on Bell Trail near Sedona? According to the description it is a nice trail, but there's a warning about stolen vehicles at the trailhead. The write up is ten years old though, and more current information here in the forums indicates closures in the area a few years back. Has anyone done this trail recently?

just did it a few weekends ago, it is a cool area and our car wasn't bothered - the trailhead was fairly busy though.

The closures are for camping within the canyon. The whole trail remains open for day-hiking (and you could camp on any of the mesas surrounding the canyon - if you wanted to). The TH is really busy all day, and this seems to discourage break-ins. I wouldn't leave a mountain bike on a car rack, though.

You'll love it, especially if you're prepared to get fully wet and hike/wade/swim a few miles upstream from the crossing. I've parked at the TH numerous times, including leaving a vehicle overnight, with no issues (but just in case, I never leave valuables in the car either, no matter where I am).

Was up there all day yesterday with no issues. I have never had a problem at that trailhead even parking overnight. I did happen upon a couple last year that had their window broken at the trailhead. A lot of publications have really spread the word about Beaver Creek ( AZ Highways, Phoenix Magazine, AZ Repulsive newspaper, etc..) so it is getting more popular. And with popularity, comes a chance of increased incedents. As stated above, do NOT leave valuables in you car...that's just common sense anywhere.
