Even though its not much of a hike, the VbarV Ranch near the Bell Trail hosts a rock wall of petroglyphs that you can take a 1/2 mile walk to. There is a visitor center/ranger station there and a small entrance fee. You can also pick up general info on the flyer they give you at the center. Very close by, is also one of my favorite places, Montezuma's Well...I love the hidden ruins that are at the bottom of the well near the water...plus it is a great place to just sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Worth the stop.
Have fun exploring!

Absolutely without doubt the best place for ruins and petroglyphs is Bloody Basin...there are gazilions of them (petroglyphs that is), and some huge ruins, some with 300 rooms. You can geet a map and write-up from the Tonto National Forest HQ on MCDowell Road.
Don't forget, LNT. The more that place gets to be known, the more the vandals also make their mark, sadly.
